Multiplication Facts Worksheets (1–9)

Multiplication facts are officially a 3rd grade goal, but 2nd graders build the foundation: equal groups, arrays and repeated addition. Many second graders are ready to start learning facts early.

These worksheets cover every fact from 1 × 1 to 9 × 9. If they feel like a lot, start with the 2s, 5s and 10s, which follow skip-counting patterns your child already knows.

Sample problems

  1. 5 × 2 = _____
  2. 6 × 8 = _____
  3. 7 × 4 = _____
  4. 2 × 8 = _____
  5. 9 × 8 = _____
  6. 3 × 9 = _____
  7. 1 × 7 = _____
  8. 6 × 1 = _____

Worked example

5 × 4

  1. 5 × 4 means 5 groups of 4.
  2. Skip count by 4, five times: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20.
  3. Or draw an array with 5 rows of 4 dots and count them.
  4. So 5 × 4 = 20.

Common mistakes

  • Adding instead of multiplying, so 5 × 4 becomes 9. The × and + signs look similar to young children; reading × aloud as "groups of" helps.
  • Skip counting by the wrong number, or losing count of how many groups. Tracking groups on fingers keeps it straight.

Tips for practicing at home

  • Turnaround facts halve the work: 3 × 7 is the same as 7 × 3.
  • Build arrays with cereal or blocks.
  • Learn the facts in families (2s, 5s and 10s first, then 3s, 4s and the rest).

Common Core standards

2.OA.C.4
Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns.
3.OA.C.7
Fluently multiply and divide within 100; by the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
